installing gnucash on Red Hat Enterprise 5

Geoffrey-33
I'm trying to build gnucash on Red Hat EL 5, but having problems when I
try to install any slib variant which is required for gnucash.

slib rpms are not available for RH EL 5, so I've tried various Fedora
versions, but receive the following error:

ERROR: Unbound variable: slib:features

Following what appears to be a successful installation of the rpm.

If I try to run the ./configure script for gnucash-2.2.4, I get the
following error:

    Cannot find SLIB.  Are you sure you have it installed?
    See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347922
    and http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483631

If I try installing slib from source, I do not get and error from the
slib installation, but I still get the above error with the gnucash
configure.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

FWIW that is what I do and it is much earier than building it yourself.

The web page is;

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL

To add the repository you do (as root);

rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-2.noarch.rpm

(you might want to change the i386 bit).

Then just;

yum install gnucash

Never heard of it, but google pointed me to the right place.  Thanks for
the pointer, looks like I'm up and running.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did, thanks to Derek's earlier response.
Google pointed me to EPEL and I RFTM from there.  Thanks.

I have epel installed as in: epel-release-5-3

Yet, when I attempt "yum install gnucash" I see:

Error: Missing Dependency: libgtkhtml-3.8.so.15 is needed by package gnucash

Further, I thought I should see a listing of the epel repository in this
list when running yum:

rhel-i386-client-fastrack 100% |=========================| 1.2 kB
00:00
rhel-i386-client-workstat 100% |=========================| 1.2 kB

rhel-i386-client-suppleme 100% |=========================| 1.4 kB
00:00
rhel-i386-client-5        100% |=========================| 1.4 kB

The gtkhtml3 soname changed in 5.2 - in the short term, you can install the
gtkhtml3 package from 5.1 in addtion, and I'll get a rebuild out.
