I am a new user and my question is regarding deleting files that were made in error; is it possible to delete these files and start out fresh?

Hi,
Just use File -> New to start over. It won't get removed from the Recent History, but that's fine Yes, you can just delete the old files. It may be easier to start the new one first, otherwise GnuCash will complain about not being able to open it. Good luck. -derek Sent from my HTC smartphone ----- Reply message ----- From: "M. And of course you could delete the files and remove the program. Then
reinstall and start all over from scratch. Depends on how "fresh" you want to start out again. -Bob On 8/6/2012 5:14 AM, Derek Atkins wrote: > Hi, > Just use File -> New to start over. > It won't get removed from the Recent History, but that's fine > Yes, you can just delete the old files. As I said, it depends on how fresh he wants his restart to be. I'm a very compulsive person, and I've been known to reformat an entire disk partition in order to get a really fresh start on something. I have been "bitten" by files I did not know about in the past. Again, "start out fresh" is relative. -Bob > >> -Bob >> >> On 8/6/2012 5:14 AM, Derek Atkins wrote: >>> Hi, >>> Just use File -> New to start over. >>> It won't get removed from the Recent History, but that's fine >>> Yes, you can just delete the old files. Bob,

So after re-installation the existing configuration will remain. > -Bob > Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. > You can do this by using Reply-To-List or Reply-All. -derek -- Derek Atkins, SB '93 MIT EE, SM '95 MIT Media Laboratory Member, MIT Student Information Processing Board (SIPB) URL: http://web.mit.edu/warlord/ PP-ASEL-IA N1NWH [hidden email] PGP key available _______________________________________________ gnucash-user mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user ----- Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Hi,
I think you meant to send this to gnucash-user, not to me. On many systems you can use gconf-editor to manipulate the data yourself. If you don't have gconf-editor (e.g. on Windows) then yes, you can modify the files by hand, but be careful to make sure gnucash and gconfd are not running when you do so. Otherwise you will lose your changes. Also be careful because you may lose your settings! -derek Krzysztof Harwas <[hidden email]> writes: > Hi, > > If that is on Windows you can try (with the default install location) to > search for directory [drive letter]:\USERS->\your user name\ and later search > for directory ".gconf" and then -> apps -> gnucash -> history and edit > "%gconf.xml" file. Hold on, the first time you said you wanted to delete old files, we assumed you meant the file that is created when you first click Save, and tell it what to call it and where to save it. The answer to that is that you can just delete it using your file manager or whatever you use to manage files (browse to wherever you told it save and delete it and the log and backup files you will also find there. Now you are asking about deleting accounts, an account is a bank account or an expense account for example. Is it an individual account you are trying to delete? That's why I suggested uninstalling the program and deleting the folder that has the settings, and then reinstalling the program. I took that to be what he meant by "start out fresh." In this case, his question essentially boils down to: Where are the setting files? That depends on which OS he's using since the directory structure differs. --Bob >> Thanks for input. >> >> -----Original Message----- From: Colin Law >> Sent: Monday, August 06, 2012 11:35 AM >> To: [hidden email] >> Cc: M.
