Recent problems building from SVN trunk

Dave Herman
I have also been having problem building the SVN trunk, this has been
going on for several days.

I also was having the problem with "missing libgw-engine.so.0".

Now I'm not getting that far.

After removing the build tree and performing a "checkout" I am no
getting this - error: goffice/goffice-config.h: No such file or
directory

log follows

Re: Recent problems building from SVN trunk

Dammit, this needs to be a FAQ.  You ran rm -rf which left the file
".links" in the top-level of your source directory.  You either need
to "make distclean" or you need to rm .links so it creates the proper
symlinks.

OK That resolved the goffice problem.  Do I feel humble ....

However I still have the `libgw-app-utils.la' problem.

system is FC4 (i386) current with updates. I get the following from

make all install

gcc -shared  .libs/gw-app-utils.o  -Wl,--rpath
-Wl,/opt/gnucash-svn/lib/gnucash -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/opt/gnucash-svn/lib

-Wl,libgw-app-utils.so.0 -o .libs/libgw-app-utils.so.0.0.0
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgncmod-app-utils
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
libtool: install: error: relink `libgw-app-utils.la' with the above
command before installing it
make[6]: *** [install-pkglibLTLIBRARIES] Error 1
make[6]: Leaving directory
`/home/dvherman/GNUCash/gnome2-gnucash/src/app-utils'

make -C src/engine all install showed no errors however then next make
all install still fails.

Yeah, I got this as well recently.   Try this:

  rm -rf /opt/gnucash-svn/*
  make clean
  make all install

-derek

Still not building libgw-app-utils.so.0.  I've tried deleting the build
target and the source directories to no avail.  FIND for
libgw-app-utils.so.0 only locates those for 1.9.2.

Later this weekend I'll try moving to different directories.

GRF.  I need the logs from both stdout AND stderr together.  Using tcsh:

make all install |& tee -i makelog

Using bash:

  ( make all install 2>&1 ) | tee -i makelog

No need to sudo for the make...  What I do is 'chown warlord /opt/gnucash-svn'
so I don't need root to 'make install'.  IMHO it's safer that way.

This is the key here.   I'm intrested why the make didn't quit here.
Do you, perhaps, have some environment variable set to tell make to
continue past errors?

Derek,

I believe this is the log your requested.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Dave

Re: Recent problems building from SVN trunk

Derek Atkins
Yes, that looks good.  Thank you for the logs.

For one thing, it certainly shows the build failing at the end.
But the error you're getting makes no sense to me...  It's trying
to install libraries in the incorrect order.

Ahh, I see the problem.  Can you update to r13605 and try again?
The problem appears to be the build/install order of the libraries
in src/engine.   I don't know why this works for me and doesn't work
for you, but this should now be fixed in SVN.

Thank you for the help in debugging this.  Please let me know if
it works (or if it doesn't work).

Thanks,

-derek

Re: Recent problems building from SVN trunk

My apologies to the entire list for my error posting a multi-megabyte
(or as spell checker suggests "multimegaton") log.

I intended to send only to Derek.  It will NOT happen again, by me.

again "Sorry"

Dave Herman

FWIW, I'd use something like 'make all install >makelog 2>&1'

Is there a particular reason you recommend piping it through tee?

Regards,
Tim

Um, so I can watch the progress?
