Icons

Andrew Duggan
Hi,

I made a split icon and a transfer funds icon (based on the Tango Project
icons).  I wasn't sure if sending pngs to the list would be OK so I am
asking first. If you're interested let me know.

Thanks,

Andrew

Re: Icons

Hi,

great to hear!

If the resulting email is less than, say, 300 KB, you can also send them
to the list. Alternatively you can open a new bugzilla item
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GnuCash and after you
clicked "Commit", you can upload the icons as attachment to the bugreport.

Looking forward to any contribution,

Christian

Or use the existing http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327647
("New icons needed for 2.0").

Finally got the bz access straighted out, So I uploaded the one's I made
(split and account) and hacked (transfer) to the above bz..  Also included
two screen shots of what the tool bars look like.  Those show I substituted
the open and trash and the close icon is from my own "Tango" extras.
Bottom line is they are all either Tango or Tango-esque.

Re: Icons

Chris Lyttle
First, thanks for your work on this Andrew, new icons were badly needed.
My comments;
I like the transfer, open, trash and account icons. The ones I dont
really like are the close and split icons. Close I would rather just a
simple 'x' in black rather than the reversed button you have. The split
just looks like a lightning bolt and doesn't suggest 'splitting' to me
at all. Perhaps if you overlayed a small 'tear' on the account icon this
would suggest splitting the account to a user?

The answer is "Attribution" and "Share Alike"
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/

Which is the same as how the Tango Project Icons are licensed, I can't find
where they specify how they their attribution to appear.

The "account" and "split" icons are my work. They pencil and yellow blob in
the edit and new account icons are from icons in the Tango Project
(http://tango-project.org).  The transfer icon is really based entirely on
the Tango Project (http://tango-project.org) send-receive icon (minus the
envelope)

I think that's a good idea you have about the tear overlaying the account
icon for the split icon. I'll work on that and add it to the bz.  The trash
is just a blue version of the Tango trash icon so maybe you just want to
take the gtk-delete or gnome-stock-trash, and let the gtk theme handle it?
Same thing on the open.  For the open icon I could substitute part of the
account icon for the paper. I'll try that and if looks anything near OK
I'll add it to the bz.

The close icon is being taken from the "gtk" theme, that's just the one I
made up really for myself. I probably should have switched my gtk icon
theme to gnome default before taking the screen shots.  So you can ignore
it, the gtk theme supplies it. FWIW, I when I was making that icon it kept
looking like a monochrome cancel button until I did the reverse
white-on-black thing.  My goal was for it to look similar to an upside down
and color-neutral version of the Clearlooks 2 Metacity focused window
close box.

As for the new and delete account icons what do you think about just a
green "+" on top of the account instead of the yellow blob, and a red "X"
in the lower right for the delete?

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks, yes the gnome stock trash works for me. I like your idea for the
open.

Ahhh I see, Yes the stock icon works here too.

ohh good idea too, I'd like to see how that looks. Once again, thanks
for this, the GnuCash icon set has needed an overhaul for a while.

I attached to bz a different idea on the split icon just now.  I am also
attaching it here. (its only 1K) Let me know what you think. Its supposed
to reflect what happens to the txn when the split button is clicked (hence
the yellow top and the white lines underneath).  I offset the white lines
as a visual clue that they are subordinate to the yellow header.

I should have the alternate for the open and close in a couple of days.

Even better than my idea, good stuff :-)
