Announcement: GnuCash 2.6.15 Released

John Ralls-2
The GnuCash development team announces GnuCash 2.6.16, the sixteenth maintenance release in the 2.6-stable series.

Changes

Between 2.6.15 and 2.6.16, the following bugfixes were accomplished:

        • Bug 516920 - Calendar Pop up disappears of the left side.
        • Bug 603379 - Prevent changing some Account Options if it has transactions.
        • Bug 670731 - Future Value not working with Loan Scheduled transaction.
        • Bug 739571 - Matching imported transactions doesn't indicate previously matched entries.
        • Bug 759934 - Tiny reports in HiDPI (workaround).
        • Bug 766630 - gui dialog for sorting transactions to accounts after aqbanking import broken.
        • Bug 767032 - Bad invoices from importing "posted" needing currency conversion Only auto-post if the posted_to account name is valid, there's no currency conversion, or the invoice customer's currency matches the A/R account currency. Tell the user what happened with a dialog.
        • Bug 773945 - Select Security Dialog Not User Friendly: Add a new namespace “ALL NON-CURRENCY” to the namespace (type) selector lists on the security picker and price editor which causes the commodity list to include all non-security commodities.
        • Bug 776247 - PriceEditor thinks Currency XXX is an actual currency and tries to retrieve prices for it.
        • Bug 776380 - Gross value of bills charged back instead of net value.
        • Bug 776494 - Wrong menu entry in Tip of the day.
        • Bug 776517 - Trial Balance Report: Total Debits Issue re $0 Commodity Accounts and Price Source Mode Set to "Nearest in Time" or "Most Recent".
        • Bug 776564 - Creating a scheduled transaction from an existing transaction does not include the notes field.
        • Bug 778208 - Scheduling 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wed doesn't seem to work.
        • Bug 779217 - Transactions rounded to 5 decimal places when opening file.
        • Bug 779411 - jqplot fixes for piechart and syntax error.
        • Bug 777875 - Reports with charts are flickering in certain circumstances.
        • Bug 777949 - Accounts implicitly created in ledger attempt creation twice.
Some other fixes not associated with reported bugs:

        • Use "Billing Information" as in other biz modules.
        • Update local symbol for MUR.
        • Online banking: Add output of bank messages that might occasionally be received.
        • Allow only date entry for opening balances on new accounts.
        • Enable taxinvoice to show net price: Add gncEntryGetNetPrice. Create an option in taxinvoice to either use gncEntryGetNetPrice or gncEntryGetPrice.
        • Make SQL full-DB sync safer and clean up automatically if it's interrupted by a system or network failure.
        • Extend account color to all columns in the account hierarchy page.
li>
        • Localize the word “CURRENCY” used in the commodity namespace selectors.
Translation Updates: Catalan, Dutch, Finnish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian

All Windows users note:  Release 2.6.16 released yesterday is missing a
dependency.  The corrected release is not out yet and it may take a few
hours.  If you are in a hurry please see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780582 for a work-around.

Re: Announcement: GnuCash 2.6.15 Released

Dick Courter
Thanks

I just downloaded setup before I received this notice. Upon activating
setup, I was asked if I wanted to delete old version. Answered yes. Then
upon clicking to install I get the following message. "An error occurred
. While trying to replace the existing file: Delete file flailed; code
5. Access Denied"   Clicking on retry also produced the same error
message and put me into a loop.

No what? I am assuming most of the old program has been deleted as no
longer is there a shortcut icon on desktop. And, I do not find a way in
the file folder to activate the old version.

Not wanting to start another thirty years war, I apologize that some
windows users and non windows users may receive this message that was
intended only for GnuCash users who run the program on a Windows computer.

Somewhat newbie question here.  I'm currently running 2.6.15 on Windows.  If I upgrade to 2.6.16 will all of my account associations for imported transactions be lost?

I'm asking because when I upgraded from 2.2.9 to 2.6.15 all the associations were lost and I had to "relearn" them (which was a pain).

If they would be lost through a normal upgrade is there anything that can be done to preserve them?

TIA

First, download gnucash-2.6.16-1.setup.exe, as gnucash-2.6.16.setup.exe had a (much discussed already in this thread) dll dependency error.

Next, make sure that you're logged in as an administrator so that you'll have the requisite permissions to delete all of the old version's registry entries and run the new installer.

Regards,
John Ralls

As far as I'm concerned, no need to apologise and thank you for your
work.  I do my part for world peace and understanding by using Windows
OS during tax season, and bsd and linux for most other things.  Prague
hasn't had a defenestration in centuries.  Let us follow their example
on this mailing list.

John,

The Windows download link on gnucash.org links to a download
of pthreadGC2.dll only by the look of things - at least that's all I got :-(

Downloaded 2.6.16-1 OK directly from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/2.6.16/gnucash-2.6.16-1.setup.exe/download

Cheers Dave H.

Well, it's not the GnuCash installer, that's known to work. There's apparently a file with a permission problem and you're going to have to hunt it down and remove it. All of GnuCash's program files are in %SYSTEMDIR%\Program Files (x86)\gnucash, so simply deleting that directory *should* do it. If you can't do it from Windows Explorer you might try running Power Shell "as an administrator", which gives you even more elevated privileges.

If it still fails, try moving aside the %USERPROFILE%\.gnucash directory. You don't want to delete it, it has some of your settings in it. If it still doesn't work go hunting for a stray registry key.

John Ralls

Re: Announcement: GnuCash 2.6.15 Released

Dave H
John,

I've installed version 2.6.16-1 and it starts up as expected with the
exception that the Save icon is immediately active/enabled which was
somewhat unexpected, well surprising really as I hadn't had a chance to
make any changes yet.

Are there some time fixes happening as part of the file open - I'm in
Brisbane, Australia (GMT + 10) and the most recent log file has about 5
records in it that look time related - see below ???

Cheers Dave H.

Re: Announcement: GnuCash 2.6.15 Released

Agree both my datafiles generated some loggable changes immediately upon
opening with 2.6.16-1. I'm AWST (GMT+8)
Looking further these are SX templated transactions. Perhaps some new check
& integrity repair was triggered upon opening?
Tried Action > Since Last Run and nothing came up. Don't think anything has
changed in main transactions.

Dave,

Yes, GnuCash runs sanity checks and repairs during file load. We call them "scrubs", and we'll sometimes add new ones as part of fixing bugs when the bug wrote bad data into the book and we can automatically detect and fix that bad data. From the log entries it looks like one[1] Geert added in 2.6.15 that removes empty splits.

John Ralls

Chris,

That's the scrub I just added for 2.6.16, https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/commit/3367e191c8072fe4e49b06c1e99d43f7fde0304f <https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/commit/3367e191c8072fe4e49b06c1e99d43f7fde0304f>. Scheduled transactions store a numeric value as a speed-up when a template formula contains no variables, but the numeric wasn't always getting updated when one edited the SX. The scrub evaluates the template formula and updates the numeric so that it matches.

Regards,
John Ralls

Re: Announcement: GnuCash 2.6.15 Released

Christopher Lam
I have warm fuzzy feeling whenever I realise how much care and dedication
the developers have to ensure data integrity.

I wish to understand the format of .log files - are they documented
anywhere? Anyone wrote a .log to English converter (this can be useful!)
